More Traveling....New Delhi to Mumbai to Coimbatore to Anaikatty

Haitian Proverb "Beyond mountains, there are mountains"

 Airplane food is no joke.... Yes those are chicken nuggets on our breakfast trays!

After a harrowing morning at the New Delhi airport and two flights we have made it to Coimbatore.  We are greeted at the Coimbatore airport by the head nurse, Shyla, and Mr. Sugan, the driver. 

We were immediately struck by the traffic and congestion in the city of Coimbatore.  Motorbikes with several people on board weaved through the heavy traffic. Oxen prodded along amongst the chaos, urged by their drivers.  

We took the hour long ride through the city and into the mountains towards the small town of Anaikatty, where Bethany Hospital is located. Anaikatty sits on the border of the states of Kerala and Tami Nadu, nestled in the mountains known at the Western Ghat. 

It is an area of various tribal communities, many of whom are self sufficient and reside in the mountains.  It is also within an elephant reserve, where wild elephant sightings are a common, if not daily, occurrence.  

Bethany hospital is small hospital servicing the surrounding tribal communities. They provide both outpatient clinical care and inpatient care.  They are equipped with a pharmacy, radiology, and on-site laboratory.
